Visuals

To get this out of the way quickly, the visuals are very pleasant. Each graphic is hand-madeย with love and very pleasing to the eye. This is of course my personal tastes. It’s not about how “good” it looks really, but more about “can you feel it”. Not to sound mushy or anything. But playing this game it just feels like a lot of care was put into the design. The characters are drawn with various emotions and play on screen much like a visual novel. It’s modeled after Harvest Moon so of course it follows the same sprite/visual novel interactions.

Sound & Music

So this is interesting… The music is soothing as one would expect. Though there’s an odd frog croak(?) like sound that plays throughout the soundtrack when it is raining outside. I was so weirded out by the sound until I realized it was part of the music! Haha~ The sound effects serve their purpose.

Storyline

I have not gotten too deep into the storyline just yet, but it seems as though it follows the standard Harvest Moon plotline. There are mystical beings that once helped to enrich the land and people prospered. After a certain person died, these beings were forgotten and the land is slowly dying. You apparently will need to find and befriend them to prevent this sleepy village from withering away. There are some characters that will eventually move back into town and provide services like tailoring once you’ve made enough progress. I must say I’m looking forward to that!ย โœฟ

Gameplay

The gameplay itself is remarkably simple. You essentially have 3ย buttons to control most actions, plus two ‘hot keys’ for tools. You can do all the standard fare like water crops, feed and care for animals, run around town and talk to people. It can be a little confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it is actually pretty efficient. There are a few mini games that you can play, like a cute little horse race for apples or a ball game unique to this village. World’s Dawn is simple and fun to play. :)

Bonus Round

Female Lead Available? Yes! +1

Gay Option? Yes! โ™€โ™€, โ™€โ™‚, &ย โ™‚โ™‚. This game goes so far as to ask about your preferences beforehand so that your options can be predetermined.ย I’ve never actually seen this method before and honestly it’s a welcome sight. :) +1

Customization? Some. You start out with limited customization to hair and attire. Unfortunately there is no option to alter skin color, at least none that I’ve seen so far. +0.5

Diversity? Not really. It’s a pretty homogeneous cast from what I’ve seen. -1

Objectification? No! There are no sexualized female characters. It would be particularly weird if there were, given the game’s theme. +1

Overall

World’s Dawnย has been a fabulous experience thus far and I would highly recommend this game to anyone, especially if you’re already a fan of series like Harvest Moon.

Total Score: 16.5/20

Please remember that this is a preview and not a Review! Once I’ve “beaten” the game and seen all there is to see, the Review might have a different score. If I ever get around to beating the game. :)ย If you’d like more information about the game and any updates, you can check out the main website.

Happy farming!ย โค
